Members of the Riverside Mission Belles women’s chorus will join singers from across the state for the California Women’s Chorus annual convention and concert, to be held April 25-27 in Burbank.

The convention will culminate in a benefit concert “Women in Song,” 2 p.m. April 27 at the Hotel Burbank. The concert will include performances by this year’s winners of the California Women’s Chorus vocal music scholarships.

The Riverside Mission Belles women’s chorus began as the PTA Mothersingers in the 1930s. Decades later the group was renamed the PTA Choristers and later became the Riverside Mission Belles, according to a news release.

The group was also instrumental in the creation of the California Women’s Chorus in the early 1970s.

Sandy Tarmo directs the Riverside Mission Belles.

The California Women’s Chorus is a nonprofit organization devoted to the encouragement of choral singing among women in California. The organization’s philanthropic purpose is to raise funds for vocal scholarships which are presented at the annual convention concert.

To date, the California Women’s Chorus has awarded more than $250,000 in scholarships to vocal students, according to the news release.
