Rochester managed to beat out Dakota by just a couple of strokes to win regionals at Fieldstone Golf Club in Auburn Hills last Wednesday.

The Falcons finished with 349 strokes to the Cougars’ 351, and were anchored by the top pair of golfers at the meet, senior Madison Yang (74) and junior Ananya Kumar (78), both of whom were part of the Falcons’ team that finished fifth at last year’s D1 final at Forest Akers West in East Lansing.

Kendall Markham (98) and Isha Chauhan (99) rounded out the scores for Rochester.

Romeo took third in the Macomb Area Conference-heavy regional with a score of 397. Stoney Creek, led by a 96 by sophomore Megan Sypniewski, came in fifth, followed by Troy Athens in sixth. Red Hawks sophomore Aanya Bansal shot an 88 to individually qualify for state.

MORE DIVISION 1

Clarkston’s Lauren Fishtahler reached the state final along with one of her teammates last fall as an individual, but will have plenty of company this time after the Wolves won regionals Monday, Oct. 7 at Preswick Village Golf Club in Highland Township.

A 347 won the regional for Clarkston, leading ahead of Rochester Adams (366) and Bloomfield Hills (379). For the Wolves, Lauren Fishtahler finished with a 90 and sophomore Lily Fishtahler had an 86. Another sophomore, Camila Garcia, had an 88, while senior Emily Sherman had a team-best 83. Adams, the defending state champs, got an 81 out of junior Hannah Wang, who posted the best score at Prestwick on the day. Brianna Park trailed her with a 90, followed by a 97 from Peyton Sage and a 98 by Alex Camargo.

Bloomfield Hills senior Avery Law had the second-best score with an 82. Freshman teammate Natalie Bugajewski followed with a 95, then a 99 from Sonal Zachariah and a 103 by Magdalena Leonard.

Troy, who came in just five strokes behind Bloomfield Hills, sends an individual qualifier to state in Madison Malenfant (86). Oxford’s Katie Pill (89) and Milford’s Elsa Young (90) also qualified.

Royal Oak shot a collective 397, good for third place on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at Twin Lakes Golf Club in Oakland Township.

Ravens sophomore Kolbie Roelofs led the team with a 92, followed by senior Kalli Roelofs’ 94. Juniors Stella Rogers and Chloe Lenda shot a 101 and 110, respectively, for the Ravens. Berkley, who took seventh at the regional, got an individual state qualifier out of senior Ella Hesano, who got through with a 93.

DIVISION 2

A battle of the top pair of programs at last year’s D2 state final played out Tuesday, Oct. 8 at Farmington Hills Golf Club between Cranbrook and Mercy.

Runners-up last year, the Cranes finished on top at last week’s regional, edging out Mercy 343 to 346. Cranbrook junior Sydney Behnke was the best on the day at the event with a 77. Also for the Cranes, Sixtine Charnelet carded an 86, Alina Yuan had an 88 and Harriet Cortez ended with a 92. Mercy was led by Lila Polakowski (82), followed by Maeve Casey (84), Megan Guerrera (87) and Emily Walker (93).

Qualifying individually out of the Farmington Hills regional was Orchard Lake St. Mary’s junior Hailey Ward, who shot an 81 for 18 holes..

South Lyon punched its state ticket by shooting a 356, good for third at Coldwater Golf Course on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

Lions senior MacKenzie Schulz was best on her team with an 81, followed by fellow seniors Kaylyn Wisniewski and Marian Valeri, who each shot a 90, and Lily Judd, who finished with a 95.

Finishing 10 strokes behind their rivals, South Lyon East took fifth, led by senior Grace Sturgill, who individually qualified for state with an 88.

DIVISION 3

Last year’s sixth-place state, finisher, Detroit Country Day ensured its trip back by winning the regional at Wolf Creek Golf Club in Adrian on Monday, Oct. 7. The Yellowjackets’ top quartet all posted sub-90 scores. That group was led by freshman Bella Papsin, followed by Ashley Diovardi (86), Rebekah Maibach (88) and Halle Heineman (89).

Marian finished second behind DCD with a collective 356 score. Junior Pippa Dawson tied for the second-best score of the round and led Marian with an 83. Following her score from the Mustangs were Frankie Kulpa (87), Campbell Whitty (90) and Emerson Turkot (96).

DIVISION 4
