The Friends of the Woodland Public Library are pleased to announce that the library will host a free event, “Writing the Mystery — Conversations with Q & A,” on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m., inside the Leake Community Room located at 250 First St.

This event will feature two published mystery writers, Franklin James and Karen Phillips, from northern California.

James has published seven mysteries, winning a Best Fiction Award from Northern California Publishers and Authors. Her six-book Hollis Morgan Mysteries was sold to A&E/Lifetime for a TV movie series released in 2022.

In addition, she serves as the Chair on the Boucheron National Board, a worldwide mystery convention.

She is a member of Sisters In Crime, Crime Writers of Color, Mystery Writers of America and Northern California Publishers and Authors.

Phillips has had several short stories published in various anthologies. “A Deadly Combo” is her first novel, and she is also a published author of non-fiction articles such as “Vetting the Tevis — A brief history of the use of veterinarians for the Western States Trail Ride. She is also a member of the Capitol Crimes chapter of Sisters In Crime.
