Red Sox: SS Xander Bogaerts is going on the 10-day DL with a cracked bone in his left ankle. An MRI confirmed the injury is non-displaced and won’t require surgery. He will miss 10-14 days. INF Tzu-Wei Lin was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket. Bogaerts left Sunday‘s 8-7 win after injuring the ankle while sliding into the Rays’ dugout.
Cubs: 1B Anthony Rizzo was placed on the 10-day DL with lower-back pain.. The move, announced after the home opener against the Pirates was postponed a day because of snow, was back-dated to Friday, making him eligible to return Monday for a three-game series against the Cardinals at Wrigley Field.
Indians: Corey Kluber struck out 13, pitching two-hit ball for eight innings and leading the Indians past the Tigers 2-0 in snow flurries in Cleveland. Andrew Miller got the save.
Cardinals: Greg Holland is set to make his debut as the new closer. The Cardinals recalled Holland from the minors in time for a home game against the Brewers, and the All-Star RHP said he was ready to pitch. The 32-year-old Holland tied for the NL lead with 41 saves for the Rockies last season, then signed as a free agent with the Cardinals on opening day. To make room for Holland, St. Louis optioned RHP Mike Mayers to Triple-A Memphis.
Angels: RHP JC Ramirez has a torn ulnar collateral ligament and will miss the rest of the season. Tommy John surgery is recommended, the team said. He was diagnosed with a partially torn UCL last season and underwent stem-cell treatment instead of opting for surgery. Ramirez lasted two innings Saturday against the A’s because of forearm tightness andhe was placed on the DL. ... RHP Jamie Barria, one of the team’s top prospects, will make his MLB debut Wednesday, manager Mike Scioscia said. Barria will start the Angels’ series finale against the Rangers in Arlington, Texas.
Barria, 21, is ranked as the organization’s No. 7 prospect by MLB Pipeline.
