A 37-year-old Pontiac man was severely injured Sunday night when he slammed his car into a retaining wall in Orion Township while under the influence of alcohol, officials said.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened on North Baldwin Road near Indianwood Road, shortly before 8 p.m. on March 2.

Sheriff’s deputies and a crew from the Orion Township Fire Department responded to the crash, and it was subsequently determined that the man’s vehicle had hit a rock and then the retaining wall. It was also determined that he had been drinking, the sheriff’s office said.

Paramedics transported the man to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, and deputies — who had arrested him — obtained a search warrant for a blood sample to determine his level of intoxication. The man was released from custody at the hospital. An investigation continues, the sheriff’s office said.
