It’s been 10 years since the Sparkle Network’s Prom Closet held its first event for high school juniors and seniors who wanted to attend their prom but didn’t have a dress to wear.

“That first year we had two businesses working with us,” said Moe Lietz of Rochester Hills and founder of the Sparkle Network, a nonprofit organization that works to support local causes, charities and young people through contributions and signature programs like the Prom Closet. “Now we have multiple businesses hosting events across Macomb and Oakland counties.”

Those first few years she had a selection of formal wear.

“Now we have a lot of dresses, plain and simple, or fancy,” she quipped, noting that Macy’s at Somerset Mall in Troy is among the businesses that contributed to the large stock of formal gowns and dresses available.

It’s not just dresses either.

“The girls are fitted with shoes and all of the sparkling accessories they might need for their special night,” said Lietz, who started the charitable closet for teens when a friend mentioned that she didn’t have the money for her daughter’s dress.

The process is simple.

Juniors and seniors are asked to fill out an application that includes their name, school and dress size. Then, they can make an appointment to attend one of several trunk shows featuring the dresses.

Here are the businesses that will be hosting the Prom Closet Tour for 2025 presented by Macomb Mall in March and April:

• March 28, Meadowbrook Center for Learning Differences at 811 Oakwood Dr., Suite 203, Rochester Hills, from 3 to 7 p.m.
