The Monterey Police Department made an arrest after a woman was reportedly abused by a man she knew.
Jeremy Hinton, 38, from Monterey was arrested and charged with attempted homicide, domestic violence, violation of probation, vehicle theft and being in possession of narcotics.
Police were called in by reports of a woman yelling for help in the 800 block of Parcel Street around 12:19 p.m. on Jan. 5. They found her inside her house with major injuries to her head, including multiple skull fractures. She was transported to a local hospital and underwent emergency surgery.
She is currently recovering from the injuries according to the Monterey Police Department.
In a press statement, police allege Hinton struck the woman multiple times with several blunt objects, causing trauma to her skull. Then Hinton stole her car and drove to a business near York Road where he changed clothes and ate lunch before driving west on the Monterey-Salinas Highway where he was later found and arrested.
Hinton was booked into the Monterey County Jail and his bail is set at $1.2 million.
