A Clinton Township man who stabbed a man along Hall Road in the township nearly two years ago pleaded no contest to a reduced assault charge and will be sentenced to time-served.
Jauron D. Vicks, 26, entered a plea to assault with intent to do great bodily harm and attempted resisting arrest Wednesday in Macomb County Circuit Court in Mount Clemens, court records say. Charges of attempted-murder charge and resisting arrest will be dismissed as part of a plea deal.
He is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 14, at which Judge Matthew Sabaugh has agreed to sentence him to probation. Vicks has served about 20 months in custody, and the sentencing-guideline range is five to 23 months, said attorney Vick’s attorney Richard Glanda.
Vicks stabbed a man Sept. 12, 2023, along Hall near Heidenreich Road, police said.
Glanda said the two men didn’t know each other. The victim made a remark to Vicks, who reacted, he said. He said the victim was homeless.
After the stabbing, Vicks allegedly ran to Harbours Apartments on Bayview Avenue, where he temporarily avoided arrest. The search for him drew a large number of police vehicles to the area.
Resolution of the case was delayed as Vicks spent some time being evaluated for mental competency, Glanda said.
Vicks was released from jail about a month ago after his bond was reduced from $500,000 to $250,000, 10%, in May, records say.
