Macomb County prosecutors have charged a former police officer with using technology to threaten and harass his ex-wife and vandalizing his stepchildren’s automobiles.

Rick Fields, 54, of Roseville, was arraigned Tuesday in 40th District Court in St. Clair Shores on four counts of malicious use of a telecommunication service and two counts of malicious destruction of property.

Magistrate Genevieve Taylor set a personal bond at $25,000.

“No one is above the law, including those who once swore to uphold it,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said in a news release.

According to prosecutors, Fields, a former Detroit officer, sent emails, voicemails, and text message to his ex-wife in June. He also is accused of using spray paint to damage his stepdaughters’ vehicles.

All six charges are misdemeanors. Prosecutors said those are the maximum charges available under the law based on the evidence to date. Court records show his defense attorney is Jennifer Chupa of Warren. She could not immediately be reached for comment Wednesday.

Fields also must wear a GPS tether, avoid contact with any of the victims, possess no firearms, and is prohibited from being near the properties where the victims reside.

He is scheduled to return July 11 for a pre-trial conference before Judge Mark A. Fratarcangeli.
