Woodlanders lined up on Wednesday morning for the Center for Land-Based Learning’s Mobile Farmers Market. The event is part of the Mobile Farmers Market Summer pop-up series starting May 13 through Nov. 20.
The truck was stationed in the morning at the Courtside Towers Apartments located at 320 West Court St., in Woodland, then later in the day at the Yolo Adult Day Health Center, located at 20 N. Cottonwood St.
According to the Center for Land-Based Learning’s website, the Mobile Farmers Market trucks are a part of the center’s Community Food Program, Follow The Tomato, which was created to help bring fresh, local, and sustainably-grown produce to food-insecure neighborhoods throughout Yolo County.
The truck featured different produce such as cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, summer squash, lettuce, asparagus, spinach, dino kale, potatoes, spring onions, beets, zucchini, carrots, sugar snap peas, navel oranges, strawberries, blackberries, and a mix of herbs. Later on, they will also have cucumbers and tomatoes.
Serena Davini, community food program coordinator for the Center for Land-Based Learning, says they are very excited to be back with the Mobile Farmers Market during the summer.
“We’ve been received very well this go around. We came to the Courtside Towers Apartments, and everyone’s super excited that we’re here,” Davini said. “They were waiting for us when we got here, which was fantastic, and we started out with a huge line. Everybody came out and bought their produce, and it was very, very busy this morning. So we’re very excited.”
She also shares that the Woodland community is always excited to have the Farmers Market, as it is an easy and convenient resource for them.
“They’re excited that we’re here. It helps them not have to go to the grocery store, and it makes it a lot more convenient for them. They love the convenience of it, and, of course, the fresh partners, they are very excited about it too,” she says. They love seeing all the locally grown produce; they like knowing that it’s grown within their community.”
