The Commonwealth Club in Warren is hosting a special performance by the Michigan Irish Repertory Theatre on Sunday, Dec. 8 that will transport audience members across the pond and back in time.

A Welsh Christmas will feature songs and prose and is a musical adaptation of Dylan Thomas’ “A Child’s Christmas in Wales.”

Thomas wrote and read a prose piece for BBC radio when World War II ended that was an anecdotal reminiscence of a young Welsh boy. That prose piece became a book a couple of years later and is still a popular holiday tale that focuses on seeing Christmas through the eyes of a child when everything seems bigger and brighter than it does when you are an adult.

“I’m very excited about this performance,” said Lori Monley, Commonwealth Club president. “It is a wonderful introspection on what things were like after World War II for an entire generation and it reminds us to be grateful for all of the gifts that we do have.

“And there will be fruitcake and singing.”

The show is open to all ages and is suitable for children.

The performance is at 3 p.m. on Dec. 6 at the Commonwealth Club located at 30088 Dequindre Road between 13 Mile and Common roads. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased here: https://square.link/u/fUi5wpmB
