Residential projects get council approval

The Town Council has approved four home improvement projects.

The plans include exterior remodeling at 51 Loma Linda Ave.; a new parking deck at 313 Upper Toyon Road; a 6-foot-tall fence and an auto gate at 117 Laurel Grove Ave.; and a pool, spa and fire pit at 78 Shady Lane.

The council held hearings on the proposals at its meeting on Thursday.

WEST MARIN

Turn lane planned at passage in Nicasio

The county has negotiated an easement that will create space for a left turn lane from Point Reyes Petaluma Road to Nicasio Valley Road.

The easement involves 1,088 square feet owned by Hicks Mountain Ranch LLC at 10900 Point Reyes-Petaluma Road, according to the Department of Public Works. The lane is intended to improve safety at the intersection.

The county will pay $500 for the easement. The Board of Supervisors approved the agreement on May 6.

Library store offers discounts on books

The Book Place, the used-book store operated by the Friends of the Marin County Free Library, is planning a sidewalk sale on May 24.

The store will offer books at $1 each or $10 for a full grocery bag.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The store is at 1608 Grant Ave. between Sixth and Seventh streets.

Rain falls in Marin as cold front passes

A fast-moving cold front from the Gulf of Alaska brought several hours of showers across Northern California on Monday. It was the first significant rain in the Bay Area since April 1.

The rain was gone by mid-morning. Rainfall totals included 0.30 inches at Mount Tamalpais, 0.15 in San Francisco and 0.06 in Richmond.
