



WATSONVILLE >> Diego Ramirez scored three touchdowns, and St. Francis High’s football team routed visiting North Monterey County 48-0 to continue its best start in school history Saturday.
Ramirez had two receiving scores and one rushing, and Diego Wolfe scored twice as St. Francis (6-0 overall) improved to 2-0 in the Pacific Coast Athletic League’s Cypress Division.
It was the Sharks’ third straight win by shutout and school-record fourth on the season. St. Francis recorded three shutouts two other times, 2008 and ’17.
“The guys are playing really hard, playing for each other,” Sharks coach John Ausman said. “It’s really fun to coach. And they never give up. So my hat goes off to them. They put their egos aside and just play together. And they handle adversity really well. If they give up a big play, they get after it the next play.”
Ramirez scored on a 65-yard run in the second quarter. One of his scoring receptions went for 47 yards.Kyle Dyer passed for three touchdowns. He connected with Nethaniel Madrigal-Hernandez in the second quarter, and Ramirez twice in the third quarter.
Wolfe scored on a 17-yard run in the first quarter and 19-yard run in the third quarter.
Gavin Valencia’s 14-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter capped scoring.
Ausman gave a shout out to inside linebackers Madrigal-Hernandez and Christian Abdoo for their stellar play. Madrigal-Hernandez had a tackle for a loss of yards on the second play, and was “all over the field,” his coach said. And Abdoo had a fumble caused and recovered, “but, really, he just took it from the guy,” Ausman said.
The Sharks have a bye next week and return to action Oct. 15 at 12:30 p.m., when they host Rancho San Juan (6-0, 2-0) in their homecoming. The Trailblazers are led by Peyton Hatten, who has rushed for 20 touchdowns and is 29 yards shy of 1,000 on the season on 98 carries.
Soquel 36, Carmel 8
CARMEL — The Knights scored 36 unanswered points to secure the win in their PCAL Mission Division game Saturday.
The game was called with seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, after a player was taken the hospital after suffering an injury.
Justice Grauel ran for a pair of touchdowns, and teammates Cade Petersen and Cruz Ferris each ran for one score. Quarterback Cole Johnson connected with receiver Braylon Noble for a touchdown.
Kicker Emilio Alfaro made all four of his extra-point kicks and booted three touchbacks.
Knights senior Jesse Nichols made two interceptions, Jason Martorella recorded three sacks and Jack Cambell had one sacks.
The Knights (5-1, 2-0) play at Seaside (3-2, 1-0) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Stevenson 48, San Lorenzo Valley 14
FELTON — The Cougars scored their first points since beating Richmond on Sept. 10, but they suffered their third straight loss Saturday in their PCAL Santa Lucia Division game.
The Cougars (1-5, 0-2) host Greenfield (2-3, 1-0) on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
Stevenson’s Trent Toole had a receiving TD and a pick-six, Rider McCormick had a rushing touchdown and pick-six. Sean Ishi had a touchdown reception, and Charlie Connor and Kai Kobrak ran for scores.
