



Evan Carter slid safely home in the top of the 10th inning, lifting the visiting Texas Rangers to a 6-5 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.
The temperature at game time was 100 degrees for a second straight night in Baltimore.
Carter was the automatic runner, and he went to third when Seranthony Domínguez (2-2) threw a one-out wild pitch. Sam Haggerty then hit a grounder to second baseman Jackson Holliday. When Holliday threw home, Carter was initially called out, but he was ruled safe on a replay review.
Reds 5, Yankees 4, 11 innings: Reds rookie Chase Burns became the first starting pitcher in the expansion era to strike out the first five batters he faced in his major league debut.
He was not able to carry the momentum through the rest of the game.
The 22-year old right-hander allowed three runs over five innings in an 11-inning win over visiting New York. The game ended on Gavin Lux’s walk-off RBI single.
Blue Jays 10, Guardians 6: George Springer broke the game open with a grand slam in the eighth inning, Eric Lauer held Cleveland scoreless until the sixth and visiting Toronto beat the Guardians.
Springer’s eighth career slam and 11th home run this season gave the Blue Jays a 10-4 lead. He went 3 for 5 with three runs scored to pace Toronto’s 14-hit night.
Rays 5, Royals 1: Danny Jansen hit a two-run home run and finished with three RBIs, Taj Bradley pitched two-hit ball for 6 2/3 scoreless innings and visiting Tampa Bay beat Kansas City.
Yandy Díaz and Jonathan Aranda had three hits apiece for the Rays.
Cardinals 8, Cubs 7: Masyn Winn homered, drove in four runs and scored twice to lead host St. Louis to a win over Chicago, its seventh win in its past eight games.
The Cubs lost their third straight.
Rangers’ Bradford to have elbow surgery: Texas Rangers left-hander Cody Bradford will have elbow surgery Wednesday after a setback during his rehab from a left elbow sprain that has kept him out all season.
Diamondbacks’ OF Carroll has wrist fracture: Arizona outfielder Corbin Carroll has a chip fracture in his left wrist and his timeline for a return is unknown, manager Torey Lovullo said. Carroll hasn’t played since a pitch hit him in the left hand last Wednesday in Toronto.
