As part of its “Every Day Counts” student attendance campaign, Woodland Joint Unified School District recognized the top three schools with the most improved student attendance for March.

The top three schools were Beamer, Dingle, and Zamora elementary schools.

Each winning school received an “Every Day Counts” banner to display and will have a DJ play at their school as a prize.

Zamora Elementary School Principal Amanda Walsh credited her school community for the achievement.

“Our parents, students, and staff have done an excellent job of making learning our number one priority, and you have to attend school to learn,” Walsh said. “A huge shoutout to the Zamora community for making every day count!”

Beamer Elementary School Principal Hortencia Hernandez expressed pride in her students’ progress.

“Our ‘osos poderosos’ are showing up, stepping up, and staying engaged,” Hernandez said. “When our students are here, they are growing academically, socially, and emotionally. I’m proud of our Beamer community for embracing the importance of being present every day.”

Dingle Elementary School Principal Laura Valencia celebrated the recognition and credited her staff and families for supporting students.

“Our students know that showing up matters,” Valencia said. “Our staff, families, and students are working together to build strong attendance habits and create a welcoming school culture. This recognition shows that our hard work is paying off.”

Superintendent Elodia Ortega-Lampkin emphasized the importance of consistent attendance in helping students reach their full potential.

“Every day in the classroom is a chance for our students to learn something new, build meaningful relationships, and take one more step toward success,” Ortega-Lampkin said. “We are proud of the work our schools are doing to boost attendance and grateful to our families for being such vital partners in this effort.”

WJUSD originally launched the campaign in January 2023 to improve student attendance districtwide. Each month, the district recognizes the top schools with the most improved attendance, and last school year, it added an “Every Day Counts” poster contest.
