Curious about birdwatching? Want to learn more about the birds in your area? Join Yolo Bird Alliance board members Autumn Turner, John Hansen, Sonjia Shelly, and Lynette Williams Duman for a Beginner Bird Walk at the beautiful Putah Creek Riparian Reserve on Sunday, April 27.

This outing is designed especially for new and inexperienced birders. The walk takes place in a scenic area featuring oak woodlands and riparian habitat, bordered by agricultural land, creating a rich and diverse environment where a wide variety of bird species can be spotted in a relatively small area.

Participants will look for both resident and migrating birds, with a chance to see Yellow-billed Magpies, Wood Ducks, Western Bluebirds, woodpeckers, American Robins, orioles, hawks and more. The walk will be slow-paced to give everyone a chance to observe the birds up close and learn along the way.

Expect a gentle, approximately 2-mile walk on mostly level terrain. Restrooms are available near the picnic area off Hopkins Road. Come enjoy a relaxed morning outdoors and discover the joy of birding!

Participants will meet at the gravel parking lot at the end of Hopkins Road at 8:30 a.m. Parking is free on weekends. The trip will end by 11:30 a.m. Please bring plenty of water and binoculars. Yolo Bird Alliance field trips are free and open to the public.
