State Rep. Mike Andrade, D-Munster, was leading in his bid to retain his District 12 seat comfortably — 55% to 45% — against his opponent, former Hammond Police Officer Jim Lietz, according to unofficial election results.

With all precincts reporting, Andrade was ahead by more than 3,000 votes.

“It is the honor of my life to represent my community at the Statehouse,” Andrade said in a statement. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to once again serve as the State Representative for HouseDistrict 12.

“I could not serve as a State Representative without the support of my family, friends, neighbors, and my hard-working campaign team and volunteers. I am indebted to you all. Thank you.”

Lietz did not respond to a request for comment.
