Farmington Hills police are investigating a workplace shooting that reportedly left one person critically injured.

The shooting happened shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of Specialty Steel Treating, Inc., located at 31610 Eight Mile Road, near Orchard Lake Road, police said.

The shooter called 911 to report the incident, which he said occurred in the business’s parking lot, according to police.

A preliminary investigation shows the shooting resulted from an ongoing dispute between two coworkers, police said.

The victim was identified after arriving at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg, police said. He was listed in critical but stable condition, police said.

As of early Tuesday afternoon, police officers, detectives and evidence technicians were still at the business, interviewing witnesses and processing the crime scene, police said.

“At this time, there is no danger to the public. All involved parties have been identified and the weapons involved have been seized,” Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King stated in a news release. “I want to commend the speed and efficiency of our officers’ response, in containing and stabilizing this dangerous scene and ensuring the safety of our community.”
