Fifty Inland Empire high school students recently got a crash course on leadership.

The Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project Inland Empire Institute guided the youths from Riverside and San Bernardino counties through a three-day workshop at UC Riverside that began July 11.

It’s one of four regional institutes across that state “designed to enhance and build the leadership potential of California’s youth,” a news release states.

The institute aims to boost students’ leadership potential while teaching them about cultural and political issues in the region, the release states.

Students interacted with officials in the education, business and political realms and were encouraged to pursue college educations. Participants received free housing and meals.
