The Marin Academy girls soccer team battled top-seeded Granite Bay deep into the second half of Saturday’s NorCal Division II championship game on Saturday, ultimately falling 1-0 as the host Grizzlies scored a goal inside the final 10 minutes.

Marin Academy (22-4-1) was making its third appearance in a NorCal final in the past four years. MA lost to Chico on penalties in 2022 and defeated Branson 1-0 in 2023.

MA pushed for a late equalizer, earning a few corner kicks in the final 10 minutes of the game. The Wildcats are losing five seniors from this year’s team to graduation, including midfielders Raya Leikin and Kacy Walker, who are committed to Cornell and Middlebury, respectively.

Prep softball

Taylor Testa pitched a complete game and had San Marin’s lone RBI in a 2-0 victory at home against Alhambra on Saturday. Testa allowed three hits and struck out five for the Mustangs (2-1) who went on to lose to Petaluma 3-1 later in the day.

San Marin scored both runs against Alhambra in the first inning. Lauren Fong scored after Testa hit a line drive to center field. Savannah Reynolds followed with a single and pinch runner Olivia Maffei came around to score after an Alhambra error.

Amanda Postel and Tessa Christian each had two hits against Petaluma.

• Redwood lost a 2-1 pitchers’ duel against Casa Grande then fell 4-0 against Pioneer in the second game on Saturday. Stella Belluomini went the distance against Casa Grande, with seven hits and two earned runs while striking out five. Ava Brown drove in the lone run for the Giants (1-4). Brown, Belluomini, and Hailey Carlton each had hits against Pioneer.

Prep swimming

Peyton Egide and Andy Larson were double winners to help lead the San Marin boys to an 88-72 victory against Redwood. Egide won the 200 IM and the 100 breast while Larson won the 200 free and the 500 free.

Annabelle Kilgore won the 50 free and the 100 free to lift Redwood girls topped San Marin 117-48.

Boys track

Tam High’s runners placed in the top five in five track events at the Gaucho Relays on Saturday at Casa Grande High in Petaluma.

Tam teams took two of the top three spots in the 800 relay. Seniors Cooper Hatch, Caeden Gardner, Jack Turner and Gilby Filat clocked in at 8 minutes, 16.93 seconds for second place. They were followed in third (8:35.84) by Tam’s Christian Hekemian, Marco Zink, Lucas Ruark and Maxel Melchionda.

The Red-tailed Hawks’ team of Dexter Burnett, Streeter Holt, Sean DiNardo and Len Wansink placed fifth in the 100 relay (45.41), less than a second off the winning time set by Petaluma. The same four also placed fifth in the 200 (1:37.87).

Tam’s foursome of Benjamin Brat, Justus Kabir, Santiago Ordonez and Cooper Embree was fifth in the 1600 relay (20:39.95).

Ruark, Hatch, Gardner and Filat combined to place third in the 4000 medley relay (10:46.16), which includes legs of 1,200, 400, 800 and 1,600 meters.

Meanwhile, Tam sophomore Sam Newmeyer set a personal best to win the high jump at a mark of 6 feet. Teammate Sullivan Gillmore placed fourth at 5-10.

Tam senior Colby Creedman-Ho took third in the triple jump (39-2). Tam sophomore Vincent Porzio was fourth in the pole vault with a personal record of 9-6.

Girls track

Tam High runners finished on the podium in three events during Saturday’s Gaucho Relays at Casa Grande High in Petaluma.

The Red-tailed Hawks’ squad of Jane Song, Margaux Kloville, Plum Lee and Emma Gardner won the 4000-meter medley relay handily in 12 minutes, 52.99 seconds. The same foursome took second in the 800 (10:26.14).

Tam’s Olivia Bartlett, Lila Miottel, Xianjian Ingoldsby and Adrian Hanson placed third in the 1,600 (26:47.21). The Hawks’ Anna Feher, Tessa Ulvestad, Indeya Sanders and Johanna Friedrichsdorf placed fifth in both the 100 (53.08) and 200 (1:52.61) relay events.

Hawks senior Ayla Koch-Bergen placed second in the shot put (30 feet, 4 inches) and the discus (98-10.5), while Kendra Evans was fourth in the pole vault, clearing the bar at a personal-best 9-6.

Marin Academy junior Grace Bramble won the triple jump (31-3.5) and took second in the long jump (14-5.5).

Tam took second the mixed 110 shuttle hurdle relay and mixed 400 relay, with boys and girls competing.

Women’s tennis

Dominican University opened its Southern California road trip with a 5-2 victory Saturday over Westmont. Audrey Rafols, Maria Gavrilov, Sofia Acuna, Deepalakshmi Vanaraja and Astrid Craig earned singles win for the Penguins.
