Tre Holloman scored a career-high 20 points, Jase Richardson had 18 points and No. 8 Michigan State beat No. 17 Michigan 79-62.
With 37.2 seconds left, the rivals pushed and shoved one another at center court, where the Wolverines players were standing near the spot where Spartans seniors have kissed the logo before walking off the court in their final home game at Breslin Center since 1995.
The Spartans (26-5, 17-3 Big Ten) closed the regular season with seven straight wins, including five against AP Top 25 teams.
Michigan State won the Big Ten’s first basketball title with 18 teams by three games over the Wolverines and No. 13 Maryland.
N.C. State fires head coach Keatts >> N.C. State fired men’s basketball coach Kevin Keatts, an abrupt end to an eight-year tenure coming less than a year after the Wolfpack’s improbable run to the Atlantic Coast Conference championship and the Final Four.
The school announced the move a day after the Wolfpack closed a 12-19 season.

Vilips wins Puerto Rico open >> Karl Vilips of Australia ran off three straight birdies to break out of an unexpected duel and played his best golf down the stretch for an 8-under 64 to win the Puerto Rico Open, his first PGA Tour victory in just his third start as a pro.
The new “Sun Day Red” brand of Tiger Woods adorned the apparel of a PGA Tour winner, and it was Vilips, the Stanford alum who has built his life around playing on the PGA Tour for as long as he can remember.
The victory gets him into The Players Championship next week and the PGA Championship in May, along with a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour.
Takeda wins second LPGA title >> Rio Takeda shot a blistering 8-under 64 to win the LPGA’s Blue Bay tournament by six shots ahead of Minjee Lee of Australia, the second LPGA title for the young Japanese.
The 21-year-old Takeda finished on 17-under 271 for the four rounds on China’s southern island of Hainan. She opened with rounds of 69-69-69 before carding the 64.
Takeda won her first LPGA title four months ago, taking the Toto Japan Classic in a six-hole sudden-death playoff.
Henley wins Bay Hill >> Russell Henley delivered a late charge that would have made Arnold Palmer proud, capped off by chipping in for eagle on the 16th hole to rally with a 2-under 70 at Bay Hill for the biggest victory of his career.
Henley trailed Collin Morikawa by three shots with five holes to play in the Arnold Palmer Invitational when it all changed with a pair of two-shot swings.
Morikawa missed the green on the par-3 14th hole and took bogey, while Henley hit his tee shot to just inside 10 feet for birdie, cutting the deficit to one shot. Nothing was more stunning than the par-5 16th hole, however.
Hill wins title >> Scottish golfer Calum Hill made par on the second playoff hole to outlast South African rivals Jacques Kruyswijk and Shaun Norris and win the Joburg Open.
The extra holes took place to the backdrop of thunder and lightning at Houghton Golf Club, with all three players parring the first playoff hole — the par-4 18th — to go back up to the tee.
Norris, who led overnight by four strokes, dropped out of contention after hitting his second shot into water from a fairway bunker before Hill left his birdie putt from off the green just short, tapping in for par.
Cricket
India defeats New Zealand >> India’s cricketers won another global trophy with a four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final.
Rohit Sharma led the chase with 76 off 83 balls and Lokesh Rahul’s unbeaten 34 helped India cross the finish line on 254-6 in 49 overs.
Half-centuries from Daryl Mitchell and Michael Bracewell earlier helped New Zealand, which won the toss and chose to bat first, put on 251-7 in its 50 overs on a slow, two-paced Dubai wicket.

Bowling green hires George >> Bowling Green hired former NFL running back and Tennessee State coach Eddie George as the Falcons’ head coach.
George was a four-time NFL Pro Bowl running back and an All-Pro, and was the 1996 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year after winning the 1995 Heisman Trophy at Ohio State.
George was the head coach the last four years at Tennessee State, where he was named the Big South-Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year last season. George led the Tigers to a share of the league championship and a berth in the Football Championship Series playoffs.

Soccer
Manchester United, Arsenal draw >> A stunning double save from David Raya denied Bruno Fernandes a dramatic late winner for Manchester United against Arsenal in the Premier League.
Raya’s heroics salvaged a 1-1 draw for Arsenal at Old Trafford but its Premier League title looks all but out of reach with runaway leader Liverpool 15 points clear at the top of the standings.
It could have been worse for second-placed Arsenal if not for Raya’s brilliance. In added time the goalkeeper flung himself in front of Fernandes’ effort from close range and then leapt to his feet to claw the spinning ball away just before it crossed the line.
