Three men from Illinois have been charged in connection with the slaying of two men in a Warren home during an alleged robbery of marijuana.

Daeviontae D. Pruitte, 31, of Lockport, Ill., was arraigned remotely by video Thursday morning by Judge Michael Chupa in 37th District Court in Warren on two counts of felony murder and one count each of armed robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, attempted murder and two weapons offenses for the Dec. 27 shooting deaths of Andrew McHenry, 37, of Ohio and Trey Bennett, and the nonfatal assault of Mark Bennett in the area of Toepfer and Ryan roads, according to police.

Chupa set a $2 million bond.

Charged in March was Tyran S. Pruitte, 30, who was scheduled to face a preliminary examination Friday in 37th District Court on the same charges except for one less weapons offense. He is being held without bond after he was extradited from Illinois.

A third suspect, Jourdan A. Armstrong, 35, has not been apprehended.

Warren police officers responded to an incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, in the 3300 of Michael Avenue for a shooting. Officers found two men were shot; one was pronounced dead at the scene and the second man was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital. According to Macomb County prosecutors, the defendants also tried to Mark Bennett.

Police said the victims met with a group of known individuals with whom they had previous contacts during which the shooting occurred. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle.

Macomb prosecutors said the defendants were committing a robbery of marijuana when the shooting took place.

Prosecutors are seeking to extradite Daviontae Pruitte from Illinois, where he is currently housed in the Shawnee Correctional Center in Vienna, Ill., held on a charge of felony in possession of a firearm, officials said in court. Pruitte’s attorney, Randy Rodnick, said he has had difficulty getting Illinois corrections officials to approve releasing his client.

Due to extradition proceedings, Pruitte’s probable-cause conference was set at a later date, July 1.

McHenry, who lived in Newark, near Columbus, Ohio, was survived by his fiance, April Smith, two children, parents, four siblings and others, according to his obituary by Bruckler and Kishler Funeral Home in Newark.

Details about Trey Bennet were unavailable.
