Marmot found in wheel well of Denver zoo team truck
A wild marmot found an unusual travel spot last week when it was discovered nestled in the wheel well of a Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance field truck.
The furry but adorable stowaway ended up taking a nearly three-hour ride with the Field Conservation team. The marmot was unharmed during its journey, according to a Thursday Facebook post by the zoo.
“(The marmot) was safely returned the very next day to the exact spot near Minturn, CO, where he climbed aboard,” the Alliance wrote.
“Upon release, he darted to a nearby rock pile, kept a close eye on us for a few minutes, and then called out as he disappeared back into the wild.”
One Facebook commenter wrote, “He’ll be telling the story to his friends all summer,” while another wrote, “He just wanted to visit the zoo!”
Aurora sued over decision to end public comment
An activist and frequent protester at Aurora City Council meetings has filed a federal lawsuit against the city, claiming her First Amendment rights are being violated by a recent decision to end public comment at its business meetings.
MiDian Shofner, who uses the last name Holmes in her suit, filed the complaint this week in U.S. District Court in Denver. It says the council ended public comment in a June 9 vote “to restrict one viewpoint: the viewpoint criticizing the (Aurora Police Department’s) killing of (Kilyn) Lewis and Aurora’s inadequate response to it.”
Lewis, 37, was shot and killed by an Aurora SWAT officer on May 23, 2024, at an apartment complex in the city. He was unarmed. Police had been seeking Lewis on suspicion of attempted murder in Denver.
