


Colorado bankruptcy filings declined slightly in May, with filings down 1% from the same period a year ago.
The state recorded 732 bankruptcy filings during May, compared with 740 for the same period a year ago. Individual filings totaled 725, down from 726 in May 2024. Business filings totaled six, down from 14 the prior year.
That’s according to a BizWest analysis of U.S. Bankruptcy Court data. Numbers cited include all new filings, including open, closed and dismissed cases.
In the Boulder Valley and Northern Colorado, filings increased in Boulder and Broomfield counties, were unchanged in Larimer County and decreased in Weld County.
Boulder County recorded 31 bankruptcy filings in May, up 41% from 22 the prior year. Boulder County recorded 36 bankruptcy filings in April 2025. Year-to-date filings total 132, up 24.5% from 106 for the same period last year.
The city and county of Broomfield recorded 14 bankruptcy filings in May, up from eight the prior year. Broomfield recorded 12 bankruptcy filings in April 2025. Year-to-date filings total 52, up 44% from 36 for the same period last year.
Larimer County filings totaled 49 in May, unchanged from the prior year. Larimer recorded 41 bankruptcy filings in April 2025. Year-to-date filings total 200, up 10.5% from 181 for the same period last year.
Weld County bankruptcy filings totaled 58 in May, down 18% from 71 a year ago. Weld recorded 69 bankruptcy filings in April 2025. Year-to-date filings total 278, up 9.45% from 254 for the same period last year.
