SOQUEL >> Sophomore Elizabeth Penny had three goals, two assists, and a steal, and the No. 2 seed Soquel High girls water polo team beat No. 7 St. Ignatius of San Francisco 12-7 in the CCS Open Division quarterfinals on Saturday.
Freshman Keira Burke had two goals, three assists, and two steals for the Knights, who led 7-2 at the half. Junior Natasha Ackerstein had two goals, one assist, and two steals, and freshman Grace Graessle had two goals, one assist, and one steal.
Juniors Makena Hansen and Libby Forrest, and freshman Sequoia Drake also scored.
Senior goalie Maddison Barwick made 11 saves, had two assists, and a steal for the Knights, the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League champion.
The No. 7 Wildcats, the fifth-place finisher in the West Catholic Athletic League, finish at 12-16.
Soquel (21-6) faces No. 3 Stevenson (19-8) in the semifinals at Sacred Heart Prep in Atherton on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
The Pirates, the Pacific Coast Athletic League’s Gabilan Division champion, beat No. 6 Menlo 13-8 in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Aptos 18, Santa Catalina 7 >> APTOS — Riley Knudsen scored five goals, and the No. 1 Mariners beat the No. 8 Cougars in the CCS D-II quarterfinals on Saturday.
Senior Adriana Santillano had four goals for the Mariners, who finished tied for second place in the SCCAL. Senior Scarlett Gleitsman-Miller had three goals.
Goalie Mary Suarez-Abraham had six saves for the Mariners.
The Cougars, which tied for second place in the PCAL, finished at 15-9.
Aptos (15-10) faces No. 4 Valley Christian (12-15) in the semifinals at Gunn High in Palo Alto on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Warriors, the sixth-place finisher in the WCAL, edged No. 5 Willow Glen 9-8 in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Santa Cruz 16, Castilleja 7 >> APTOS — Junior Violet Rubin had seven goals and two steals, and the No. 2 Cardinals beat the No. 7 Gators (13-12) in the D-II quarterfinals at Aptos High on Saturday.
Senior Giulia D’Souza scored five goals for the Cardinals, who tied for second place in the SCCAL. Senior Kat Fanni had two goals, four assists, and four steals, and classmate Daphne Olson had two goals, three assists, and one steal.
Sophomore goalie Sage Steller-Croll made nine saves and had two assists.
Santa Cruz (13-8) faces No. 3 Harker (20-8) of San Jose in the semifinals at Gunn High in Palo Alto on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
The Eagles, the third-place finisher in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League’s De Anza Division, beat No. 6 Pioneer 11-7 in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Boys
Soquel 16, Willow Glen 8 >> SOQUEL — Seniors Noah Piona and Cash Wolf each scored four goals, and the No. 1 Knights (19-7) beat the No. 8 Rams (13-12) in the Division II quarterfinals on Saturday.
Piona also had four steals and an assist, and Wold had three assists.
Junior Stryder Stelck had three goals, four assists, and three steals for the Knights, the SCCAL runner-up and league tournament champion. Freshman Jake Martinez had two goals, an assist, and three steals. Junior Tanner Connors also scored twice and had an assist.
Sophomores Cane Mitchell and Kai Queenan also scored.
Goalie Jacob Henshaw made nine saves for the Knights.
Soquel (19-7) faces No. 5 Valley Christian (9-18) in the semifinals at Gunn High in Palo Alto on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The Warriors, the seventh-place finisher in the WCAL, beat No. 4 St. Ignatius 10-8 in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Menlo 16, Santa Cruz 6 >> APTOS — The No. 4 Knights beat the No. 5 Cardinals in the CCS Open Division quarterfinals on Saturday at Aptos High.
The SCCAL champion Cardinals finish at 19-6.
Menlo (19-9), the fourth-place finisher in the WCAL, faces No. 1 Sacred Heart Prep (17-10) in the semifinals.
