Here’s a look at who turned out to be the top high school baseball players in the county. The Monterey Herald’s All-County Baseball team.

Dominic Chavez, Soledad>> A three-sport standout and member of The Herald’s All-County football team last fall, Chavez hit .382 for the Aztecs this past spring. The senior produced a .508 on-base percentage, walking a team-high 17 times. Chavez also drove in 12 runs and scored 20. On the mound, he compiled a 1.91 earned run average.

Omar Gonzalez, Palma>>The power-hitting first baseman anchored the Chieftains’ offense, leading them in numerous offensive categories, while hitting .315. Gonzalez finished with team-high five homers and led Palma in doubles (10), runs scored (20), runs batted in (23) and total bases. He also produced a pair of saves out of the bullpen.

Ethan Jackson, Carmel>>The senior catcher evolved at the plate for Carmel, hitting five homers, while driving in a team-leading 29 runs for Central Coast Section Division III champions. Jackson was second on the team in hits with 23, while compiling a .385 on-base percentage. Behind the dish, he threw out six runners attempting to steal and picked off two other runners on base.

Zander Lunt, Carmel>>Used as a closer and starter, Lunt recorded five wins, two complete games and six saves with 58 strikeouts in 50 innings. Lunt nailed down four straight saves in the Padres’ run to a CCS Division III title. Flawless in the field at second base, the junior was among the team leaders in hits and multiple-hit games.

Cam Miramontes, Monterey>>Asked to fill the No. 1 spot in the rotation, Miramontes responded with a 6-2 record and a 1.85 earned run average. The left-handed hurler struck out 40 hitters in 56 innings. Opponents hit just .228 off Miramontes, who was brought up as a freshman four years ago.

Alec Ortiz, Salinas>>The heartbeat of the offense, Ortiz hit a team-high .358 for the Cowboys, driving in a team-leading 20 runs. Oritz compiled a .424 on-base percentage, striking out just five times in 95 plate appearances. He also had seven doubles and scored 15 runs. On the mound, he was 2-1 with two saves.

Rocco Razzeca, Palma>>The lone freshman named to the team, the left-handed swinging Razzeca had 31 hits in 27 games, hitting three homers for the Chieftains. Hitting near the top of the order, Razzeca hit three homers. On the mound, he won three games and had three saves in 27 ? innings, throwing in relief in three of the team’s final four playoff games.

JJ Sanchez, Carmel>>One of three players to repeat on the all-county team, Sanchez was the Pacific Coast Athletic League Gabilan Division’s tri-Player of the Year after leading the league in hitting and earning seven wins on the mound. The left-handed junior hurler posted a 1.85 earned run average for the CCC Division III champion Padres, striking out 87 hitters. Hitting in the No. 3 spot in the order, Sanchez batted .414, with 17 walks, while driving in 19 runs.

Pablo Sanchez, Monterey>>Hitting in the leadoff spot for the Toreadores, the senior hit .358 with a .462 on-base percentage. Platooning between first and second base, Sanchez finished with a team-leading 31 hits. He scored 20 runs, walked 14 times, stole eight bases and drove in eight runs.

Eric Segura, Soledad>>Bound for Oregon State on a baseball scholarship, Segura posted a 0.66 earned run average, striking out 90 hitters in 53 innings in just 11 appearances. A repeater on the all-county team and the Gabilan Division’s tri-Player of the Year, Segura also hit .404 for the Aztecs, driving in 18 runs, while scoring 25.

Trent Toole, Stevenson>>The only player to earn all-county honors in football, basketball and baseball, Toole was the Mission Division’s Pitcher of the Year. Bound for Villanova on a baseball scholarship, Toole was 7-0 with two saves, two perfect games and a 1.25 earned run average, striking out 68 hitters in 50 innings. He also hit .438, scored 25 runs, drove in 31 and stole 17 bases.

Amani Wilson, Stevenson>>The junior slugger hit .408 for the Central Coast Section Division VI champion Pirates, sharing the team lead in hits with 30. Wilson ripped a pair of homers and knocked in 30 runs for Stevenson. He struck out just five times in 85 plate appearances, ripped eight doubles and was flawless at first base, handling all 42 chances.

Diego Mendoza, Greenfield coach>>Mendoza guided the Bruins to an undefeated season in capturing the Cypress Division baseball title. Greenfield went out and set a single-season school record for wins with 17, rattling off a school record 10 consecutive wins. It was an improvement in the win column for the third straight year.
