The CIF Southern Section softball pairings were released Monday, and it wasn’t a surprise to see La Mirada, Charter Oak, Bonita and La Habra all end up in the Division 1 bracket.

This is the first year the CIF-SS used computer rankings to place softball teams in playoff divisions.

California, which won the Del Rio League, is the top seed in Division 2. Muir (Division 5), South Pasadena (Division 6) and El Monte (Division 7) also earned top seeds. Muir and El Monte have byes in the first round.

All first-round games are Thursday, with the second round Saturday.

Charter Oak (16-0) was the only team in the CIF-SS that finished undefeated and was ranked eighth overall in the final computer rankings. The Chargers, who haven’t played a team ranked in the top 50, will be at home in the first round against Sunset League co-champion Huntington Beach (21-7).

Gateway League champion La Mirada (23-4) finished No. 6 in the rankings and will be home against Paraclete (24-2-1).

Palomares League runner-up Bonita (19-9) is at Rosary Academy (25-2-1) and Freeway League champion La Habra (21-7) is home against Upland (19-9).

DIVISION 2

California (19-9) was likely thrilled with the top seed and that it avoided Division 1.

The Condors host their first-round game against Beckman (17-8), the second-place team from the Sea View League.

Los Altos (19-8) has a tough draw. After going undefeated in the Hacienda League the Conquerors are on the road at Linfield Christian (20-3).

Ganesha (21-5-1), which dominated the Miramonte League, should have a competitive first-round game at Agoura (16-11).

La Serna (16-10) is at No. 2 Liberty (18-9) and South Hills (16-8-1) will be on the road at Sunset League co-champion Los Alamitos (16-12).

Whittier Christian (20-7), which finished second in the Olympic League, drew a home game against Shadow Hills (19-2). Sonora (16-9) is home against Villa Park (14-14).

DIVISION 3

Glendora (17-9) is the top seed and will host Chaminade (15-11-1), which finished second in the Mission League.

Perhaps the best SGV matchup of the first round is St. Paul (12-14) at Del Rey League champion Bishop Amat (16-11). The two rivals will meet for the third time this season. Amat won the two league games.

Almont League champion Schurr (21-5-1) will be on the road in first round at Westlake (15-13).

El Rancho (14-9), which had to battle California and La Serna in the Del Rio League, will be at Alta Loma (12-8) in the first round.

Arcadia (14-9-1), which won the Pacific League tournament, is at Marina (14-13), which finished third in the tough Sunset League.
