When and where: Broomfield Community Center, with dive events starting on Friday at 2:30 p.m. and swim events at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The scouting report: All 13 teams from the Boulder, Broomfield and Longmont areas are expected to participate at the annual city meet this weekend.
Historically, this has been Fairview’s meet. Last year, the Knights edged Legacy for the team crown.
Like last year, Fairview is led by University of Tennessee commit Amelia Mason. Currently ranked as the second-best 2025 Colorado prospect by SwimCloud.com, Mason already has six top-five finishes at the Class 5A state meet. Last year, she placed second in the 100-yard butterfly and third in the 50 freestyle.
This winter, more accolades, as Mason has several of the state’s top-five times, including the best 200 freestyle (1 minute and 51.70 seconds).
But the Knights will have plenty of competition.
Behind Fairview’s fourth-place finish at the 5A meet last year, Legacy (seventh) and Boulder (12th) have brought back some nice talent this winter. Broomfield, Monarch and Centaurus, meanwhile, are all state title contenders in 4A this season after finishing a respective second, fourth and fifth at last year’s meet.
Coming into the weekend, host Broomfield has the best 500 freestyle duo in Colorado. Junior Ridley Hagerman owns the state’s fastest time in the distance event (4:57.91), while teammate and classmate Ellie Foulke is fourth (5:06.49).
Hagerman is also third in the 200 free (1:53.00), just two spots behind Mason.
Monarch has two returning individual state champs. Eliza Lennox won the 50 and 100 freestyle events at the 4A meet last winter, while Audrey Shambo took the 100 breaststroke.
In the 50 free, Lennox has the fourth-fastest time (23.74), behind Fairview’s Mason (third). Holy Family’s Lorelai Frauenfelder is fifth (23.76).
Lennox is also fourth in the 100 free (51.63), two spots behind Mason. Shambo is second in the breaststroke (1:04.16), a place ahead of Legacy’s Emee Henkel in third (1:04.78) and four spots in front of Boulder’s Hazel Huilman in sixth (1:05.86).
Centaurus has Virginia Walsh, who has Colorado’s second-fastest 100 backstroke (56.75). The Warriors were 4-0 in duals before falling to Silver Creek on Jan. 10.
The Raptors, speaking of them, have gotten a solid season from Annika Sesselmann — who has the Granite Peaks League’s third-fastest 100 breaststroke (1:09.82) — and were 7-0 in duals before losing to Fairview on Tuesday.
Elsewhere, Niwot is led by 4A diving champ Izzy Fay. She has the fourth-highest 11-dive score (475.95) this winter.
Erie has some exciting freshmen talent, namely Makayla Goodbrand and Virginia Footdale. Goodbrand claimed two events at the St. Vrain All District meet last weekend, winning the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Footdale won the 50 freestyle.
Frederick is led by do-it-all junior Addisyn Murray. She has her team’s best times in all but one swim event this season — the 100 backstroke (Payton Ramey).
Longmont is getting a strong year from Alessia Daelli, who won the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly in a win over Skyline last week. In that dual, the Trojans won all but one swimming event — the Falcons’ Isha Shah’s victory in the 200 IM.
Returning winners from last year’s Boulder County Invite include Fairview’s Lexi Byrn (50 freestyle), Boulder’s Sloan Zallen (100 free), Centaurus’ Walsh (100 fly), Monarch’s Shambo (100 breaststroke), Broomfield’s Foulke (200 IM) and Niwot’s Fay (dive).
