FELTON. >> Sophomore running back Justin Griffis rushed for 120-plus yards and two touchdowns, and the San Lorenzo Valley High football team routed Marina 48-7 in the teams’ Pacific Coast Athletic League Santa Lucia Division game Saturday.

Marina scored on its opening series, and SLV was forced to punt on its first series, but it was pretty much all Cougars the rest of the way.

“It was an all-around great showing for a lot of different guys stepping up and making plays,” said Cougars coach David Grant.

Senior quarterback Jack Dagan rushed for a touchdown and passed for two others, a 6-yard strike to Riley Johnson, and a 42-yard strike to Jordan Renteria with 10 seconds left in the first half.

Johnson’s touchdown gave the Cougars a 21-7 lead at the half.

Senior Winston Wells had 105 yards receiving and 35 yards rushing with a touchdown. Senior Brodie Prater scored on a 17-yard run.

The Cougars finished with 350-plus yards on offense. It lost a pair of fumbles but won the turnover battle four to two.

SLV made three interceptions and recovered a fumble.

Lineman Haden Woolworth made four tackles for a loss of yards, including two sacks, and caused and recovered a fumble.

“All season long, he has been a force on both sides of the ball,” Grant said. “I love the energy he has. It’s kinda contagious.”

Lineman Andrew Gafford recorded an interception at SLV’s 5-yard line and returned it 35 yards. Gabe Machado made an interception to set up Renteria’s score. Dom Aguilar also made an interception.

Sophomore linebacker Jacob Hardin made six tackles, including one for a loss of yards. Lineman Cody Bumbaca-Thomas recorded a sack.

The Cougars play Gonzales at Alisal High on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Pajaro Valley 49, Harbor 0

WATSONVILLE — The Grizzlies posted their first shutout since Sept. 24, 2022 to remain unbeaten in PCAL Santa Lucia Division play Saturday.

Three unbeaten teams remain in the division: SLV (6-0, 2-0), Stevenson (4-2, 3-0), and the Grizzlies (4-3, 3-0).

Alexavier Negrete had 15 carries for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Adrain Mendoza, Brian Flores, and Brandon Lampon each rushed for a touchdown.

Izaak Ocampo had three receptions for 85 yards and a pair of touchdowns, both coming on passes from quarterback Miguel Solano.

Ricky Renteria made an interception. Isaias Villasana made an interception and forced a fumble, and Flores had a fumble recovery and a tackle for a loss of yards.

Pajaro Valley plays at Stevenson in Pebble Beach on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Harbor (1-5, 0-3) plays at Marina on Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m.

“As the head coach, I’m truly disappointed in myself; our team came out flat and didn’t play with passion or inspired football,” Pirates coach James Gaynor said. “Schematically, P.V. was very simplistic in its game plan and just punched us in the mouth all afternoon. Hats off and respect to their coaches and students. We’ll learn from this and continue to get better, the team and I.”

Stevenson 59, Santa Cruz 14

PEBBLE BEACH — Quarterback Neven Ristic threw a pair of touchdown passes in the Cardinals’ PCAL Santa Lucia Division loss on Saturday.

Santa Cruz’s Fernando DeCosta scored on a 63-yard screen pass, and Adrian Pendergast had 70-yard soring reception.

Pirates Quarterback Fin Mink accounted for six touchdowns. He passed for 346 yards and five touchdowns, and rushed for 85 yards, including a 65-yard touchdown run.

Mink connected with Derek Diniz for two touchdowns, and Grady Roth, Flint Dickson, and Caden Olson for one touchdown. Tono Borgamini and Tommy Dayton rushed for touchdowns

Santa Cruz (0-7, 0-3) hosts Marina (1-5, 0-2) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
