DETROIT >> Henrik Zetterberg still hasn’t received the phone call from the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Zetterberg will need to wait another year, after Tuesday being bypassed for the fourth year of his eligibility.

Duncan Keith (who played a little over one year in Michigan State), Zdeno Chara, Joe Thornton and Alexander Mogilny were male players inducted, along with women players Jennifer Botterill and Brianna Decker.

Botterill, current analyst on Hockey Night in Canada, is the sister of former Michigan player Jason Botterill.

Jack Parker (Boston University) and Daniele Sauvageau (Canadian women’s coach) were inducted in the builders’ category.

Zetterberg was one of the elite players in the NHL at his prime, including winning the Conn Smythe Trophy (playoff Most Valuable Player) in 2008 while leading the Wings to a Stanley Cup victory. He’s also one of only 27 players in the exclusive Triple Gold Club (Stanley Cup, Olympics, world championships), having earned championships in all three.

Zetterberg ranks fifth on the Wings’ career list for goals (337), assists (623) and points (960).

Former Wings goaltenders Chris Osgood and Curtis Joseph also weren’t on this year’s list of honorees.

A committee of 18 select players for Hall of Fame entrance, with 75 percent of the votes needed. There is a maximum of four male players, two female players and two builders elected each year.

Tuesday’s vote marks the end of a five-year streak of players who’ve been inducted who’d played for the Wings.

Zetterberg’s teammate, forward Pavel Datsyuk, was inducted in 2024, along with builder Colin Campbell. Goaltender Mike Vernon was honored in 2023, forward Daniel Alfredsson in 2022, general manager Ken Holland and forward Marian Hossa in 2020, and forward Vaclav Nedomansky in 2019.

Because of the COVID pandemic, there was no Hall of Fame class in 2021.
