Chaffey College’s choral and band students will present their end-of-season concerts Friday and Saturday in the theater on the college’s Rancho Cucamonga campus, 5885 Haven Ave.

The choral concert, “Stories Through Song,” is 7 p.m. May 9, and the band concert, “That’s Entertainment!,” will be 2 p.m. Saturday.

The “Stories Through Song” repertoire has challenged choral students to combine cultural movements, such as hand gestures, with their vocal performances, choral director Bethany Encina said in a news release.

Students learned traditional Indian “mudras” — a Sanskrit word for “gesture” — to accompany the Reena Esmail piece “TaReKiTa,” and they will also perform several traditional folk songs as well as “Bridge Over Troubled Water” by Simon and Garfunkel.

“Our rehearsals frequently move between raucous enjoyment and intense focus in the pursuit of an excellent and respectful representation,” Encina said in the news release.

Chaffey College’s band students will combine music from Broadway and Hollywood in their “That’s Entertainment!” concert.

For Disney fans, the band will play “Selections from Aladdin,” from the movie that eventually became a Broadway musical. The concert band will also perform “The Phantom of the Opera Medley,” “Defying Gravity” from “Wicked” and “Hollywood Milestones.”

The jazz band is set to perform classics such as “Quintessence” by Quincy Jones, “Love for Sale” by Cole Porter and “Carnival” by David Samuel.

Tickets for each concert are $10, available at chaffey.edu/acc/acd/acd-community/box-office.php.
