Woodland City Council passed a proclamation earlier this week declaring March 2 through March 8 as Women in Construction Week.

The National Association of Women in Construction’s (NAWIC) mission is to enhance the success of women in the construction industry. According to the staff report, the NAWIC Sacramento Chapter #63 members are involved in construction and construction-related fields throughout the entire Sacramento region and have distinguished themselves for 60 years as the voice of women in construction.

“The Sacramento Chapter of NAWIC has unceasingly promoted the employment and advance of women in the construction industry,” the proclamation states. “The construction community, represented by Sacramento Chapter of NAWIC has been a driving force in fostering community development through renovation and beautification projects; promotion of skilled trades careers; and a positive vision of the future.”

Sacramento Chapter #63 will have several activities during WIC Week this year, which include a women in construction lobby day at the State Capitol, proclamations from cities and counties, member and non-member networking event, job site tour of an active construction site, social media posts and members highlights, and more.

“We appreciate all of the women that are in construction. My daughter sees the women in construction out. She says, When I grow up, I want to be in construction too, and a teacher and a city council member and all of that,” Councilwoman Mayra Vega shares. “I think it’s important to acknowledge all of these women that roll up their sleeves and help us build this amazing community.”
