The new movement taking hold at Corona’s Santiago High School can be summed up in two words: Be Kind.

That’s the slogan on T-shirts that students and staff members are wearing this school year.

The campaign, which urges all on campus to follow the slogan’s advice, began in October, Santiago teacher Phillip San Angelo wrote in an email.

Several classes are donning the black shirts, as are employees from the library to the counseling office. Many teachers show up Wednesdays in the shirts, he wrote.

San Angelo’s classes as well as others wear them on Wednesdays, which they’ve dubbed “Be Kind Wednesdays,” he wrote.

“One day I saw a Be Kind shirt online and thought, ‘What a great way to spread the movement of being kind,’ ” San Angelo wrote.

The Be Kind mission statement starts by declaring: “Kindness is like a superpower that we all have inside us. When we choose to be kind, we can make someone’s whole day better with just a simple smile or a friendly word.”

It also suggests ways the Santiago community can be kind, which include:

• Saying thank you

• Helping a classmate with homework

• Sharing your lunch with someone who forgot his/hers

• Standing up for someone who feels left out
