The Tam High football team will have to wait a week to secure its eligibility for the North Coast Section playoffs after falling 32-27 at home against Petaluma on Saturday.
Tam (2-7, 2-3 Valley) needs to finish with a .500 record in league to be eligible for the postseason. Tam hosts Napa (0-9, 0-5) at 2 p.m. next Saturday.
Tyler Weisberg, Ethan Koo, Timo Ural, and Octavien Green had touchdowns against Petaluma (4-5, 3-2).
Tam was unable to slow down Petaluma’s run-option. The Trojans came into the game averaging 298 yards per game on the ground.
“We just ran out of time,” Tam coach Anthony Mejia said. “If you can’t stop the run that late in the game, it’s tough to make your possessions matter.”
Tam lost quarterback Reed Edwards (239 yards, two touchdowns) to a knee injury midway through the fourth quarter, Tam lined up Koo, a running back, in the wildcat for a while before putting Gus Beyer in under center.
Beyer threw a late touchdown to Green for the final margin. Mejia said he was hopeful Edwards would be fine for next week’s crucial game.
Receiver Timo Ural had five catches for 134 yards. Green had three catches for 91 yards. Koo ran for 120 yards.
Archie Williams 43, Healdsburg 42 (OT) >> Archie Williams led 20-0 midway through the second quarter but gave up a pair of touchdowns to Healdsburg to see its lead cut to just six points by halftime.
After a back-and forth battle during the second half, the Greyhounds scored a late touchdown to force overtime.
Healdsburg got on the board first in overtime, but the Peregrine Falcons rolled right back the other way for a touchdown. With the game hanging in the balance, the Falcons went for and got the two-point conversion.
Piner 36, Novato 6 >> The Hornets trailed by 12 points at the half before the Prospectors would roll off 24 more unanswered points in the second half to turn the game into a rout.
Novato’s lone score came late on an 11-yard pass from quarterback Trevor Cleary to C.J. Castro. Novato’s bright spot on defense was Leo Hernandez, who had six sacks and forced a fumble.
Branson 76, Roseland University Prep 40 >> Quarterback Tom Lardner and the Bulls enjoyed a high-scoring victory over host Roseland University Prep on Saturday in Santa Rosa. Lardner, who also plays safety, put numbers on the board on both ends of the ball, even returning an interception for a touchdown.
Roseland, which trailed by 52 at one point, tried to mount a late rally before the Bulls defense shut down the Knights.
Branson (5-2) is scheduled to close out the regular season against Calistoga on Saturday.
Stone Ridge Christian 10, San Rafael 9 >> Victory slipped away from San Rafael as host Stone Ridge Christian rallied for the winning score in the fourth quarter to edge the Bulldogs in Merced during a non-league contest on Friday.
San Rafael quarterback Lachlan Royston completed just 16 of 42 passes with an interception, but racked up 218 yards and a touchdown. Senior Torin Pilla accounted for all of the Bulldogs’ scoring with a 27-yard field goal in the second quarter and touchdown reception in the third quarter for a 9-3 lead.
Bulldogs senior Dante Canziani caught five passes for 71 yards, including a 40-yard reception. Senior Haden Berlinsky caught four passes for 62 yards.
San Rafael (5-4) managed just 23 yards on the ground, led by Josue Munoz, who ran seven times for 19 yards.
San Rafael’s defense held Stone Ridge to just three points through three quarters. Senior Jayro Escamilla had two sacks and three tackles. Senior CJ Harter had four tackles and one of six San Rafael sacks.
The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season on Friday against Terra Linda in the annual Bell Game.
College football
Former San Marin High standout Dominic Ingrassia threw two more touchdowns on Saturday in a 51-7 win against City College of San Francisco.
Ingrassia completed 9 of 13 passes for 132 yards, with scoring passes in the first and second quarters. Another former San Marin standout, kicker Ryan Rodas, made an extra point for CCSF.
