1. LA MIRADA (14-3)

La Mirada established itself as a CIF Southern Section Open Division contender by reaching the semifinals in the Platinum Division of The Classic at Damien. The Matadores also have done well in out-of-state games and are big favorites to win the Gateway League.

2. GLENDORA (16-3)

The Tartans have won 14 straight and won their third tournament title by beating Utah’s Skyridge in the championship of the Bronze Division of The Classic at Damien. Forward Colton Gray is having a season to remember. The Tartans return to Palomares League action this week.

3. DAMIEN (13-6)

The Spartans lost their first three games in the Platinum Division of The Classic to stretch their losing streak to four games, the longest losing streak during Mike LeDuc’s tenure at the school. The Spartans finished the tournament with a 61-53 win over Destiny Christian Academy. They open the Baseline League at home Wednesday against nemesis Etiwanda.

4. LA HABRA (17-4)

Acen Jimenez and Jaedon Anderson have played well for the Highlanders, who went 2-2 in the Diamond Division of The Classic at Damien. They finished with a 64-49 win over Fairmont Prep and beat Cypress 64-49 to open Crestview League play.

5. PASADENA (10-6)

The Bulldogs lost to Culver City in the semifinals of the Silver Division in The Classic, but rebounded with a 57-54 victory over San Gabriel Academy. They lost to Heritage Christian 65-40 last week, but all of these tough games should pay off when Pacific League play begins this week.

6. ST. FRANCIS (13-5)

The Golden Knights won four straight, which included a 50-41 victory over Bishop O’Dowd, before losing 68-43 to Oregon’s Tualatin. The Golden Knights did have a surprising loss to Maranatha, but have rebounded well. They also had a win over La Canada along the way. But now they have to get through the tough Mission League.

7. LA CANADA (13-3)

The Spartans got hot over the final two weeks of December, winning the Wilson tournament with an 77-51 victory over La Serna in the championship game. Now they go into Rio Hondo League play and have a big matchup Friday against South Pasadena.

8. ST. PAUL (10-7)

The Swordsmen play such a tough schedule early in the season to get ready for the Del Rey League. It paid off with a 56-41 win over Bishop Montgomery in the league opener. Although they have seven losses, they also have some strong wins.

9. BISHOP AMAT (14-4)

The Lancers are not at the level of other top area private schools like Damien and St. Francis, but they’re knocking at the door and finally closing the gap. They had a five-game winning streak snapped by Great Oak.

10. SOUTH PASADENA (9-4)

The Tigers make their first appearance in the Top 10 after beating Alemany 81-72 in the championship game of the Platinum Division of South Pasadena’s tournament. They open the Rio Hondo League play with tough games, playing Blair on Wednesday and La Canada on Friday.
