Marin County sheriff’s deputies arrested a convicted sex offender in Novato on allegations of drug and gun crimes.
Daniel Charles Worthen, 59, was booked after investigators searched his trailer on Binford Road on Thursday. Investigators found methamphetamine and marijuana that they suspected Worthen planned to sell, according to a statement from the sheriff’s department.
Investigators also found suspected fentanyl, a loaded 9mm gun with no serial number, a digital scale and items stolen from a vehicle in San Francisco.
Worthen was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of several gun and drug felonies and a misdemeanor. He remained in custody Monday in lieu of $15,000 bail.
He previously served four years in prison for a 1988 conviction for sexual battery, according to the state’s sex offender registry.
Authorities began investigating Worthen last month. On Feb. 23, another trailer occupant on Binford Road was found dead, and investigators suspect he overdosed on fentanyl at Worthen’s trailer several days before.
The man who died was Larry Fred Kennedy, 58. His cause of death and toxicology results remain pending.
The involvement of drugs “has not been excluded,” said Chief Deputy Coroner Roger Fielding. Kennedy showed no traumatic injuries, Fielding said.
