5 things to do this Halloween weekend

Halloween fun in the form of family friendly or downright frightful can be had all weekend.
Many kid-centric events will be held throughout the weekend in Lemont while haunted houses are open for the ultimate scare.
Or, if you prefer to be seated and witness the horror on a stage, check out “Little Shop of Horrors” in Chicago Heights or “Rocky Horror Picture Show” in Chicago's Beverly neighborhood.
A haunted house, Halloween Hoedown and Hooowl-A-Ween will be offered in Lemont.
Haunted Central at Old Central School, 410 McCarthy Road, will be open from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with a less-scary version from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Details at www.sd113.org.
The village of Lemont's Halloween Hoedown from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday in downtown Lemont is a free event with a costume contest and parade, trick-or-treating at stores, hay wagon rides and other activities. The Lemont Park District also will host a Halloween Hoops contest.
On Sunday, Lemont Township's Hooowl-A-Ween Event from 1 to 3 p.m. at Central Bark Dog Park will include dog costume and trick contests, pet product and service vendors, rescue groups with pet adoptions and a 50/50 raffle to benefit Lemont Township-assisted pet owners with veterinary emergencies and unpayable pet-related costs. Details at 630-257-2522.
With a new and bigger location, the wheelchair-accessible attraction features two haunted houses with more than 100 actors plus a heated indoor waiting area with entertainment. Hours are from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday and Sunday and from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission is $23 in advance or $25 at the door, with VIP tickets and other packages available. Guests who bring an item for veterans receive a $5 discount; see list of items online.
A friendly, lights-on walk-through for ages 12 and under will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday free of charge.
Parking is free on-site. Overflow parking is available at the Metra station, 9525 Tulley Ave., with shuttles provided.
Yvonne and Ralph Shurley's award-winning decorated house in the Deer Point subdivision is open for free outdoor tours nightly through Halloween, with local theater student actors on Fridays and Saturdays and occasional Sundays. The haunt features 30-plus full-size skeletons attached to the house, moving ghouls in a 14-foot tower, “Little Dead Riding Hood” and a wolf, a replica of the Addams Family crypt, a graveyard, huge spiders, multiple props and projections in five windows.
The musical will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Friday, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $15 to $21.
Have a cocktail and ready your newspaper, rice and toast. The 1975 cult classic will be screened at 8 p.m. Friday with actors performing along as a shadow cast. Audience members are encouraged to participate, and prop kits will be for sale for $10. Tickets are $10 or $9 for members. A cash bar will be available.
