A 38-year-old Romulus man has been bound over for trial in connection with an arson and domestic violence incident involving his ex-girlfriend.
Terrell Valentino Flake allegedly set fire to his ex-girlfriend’s Warren apartment and truck on Nov. 25, 2024 when he was helping her move into her new apartment in Warren.
After helping his ex-girlfriend, Flake allegedly demanded several times that she get back together with him. The ex-girlfriend refused to get back together, and asked Flake to leave or she would call the police.
Flake allegedly responded by becoming physically violent, putting her in a headlock and slamming her to the ground to take her cellphone away. The ex-girlfriend was able to escape and called the police. Flake fled the scene.
The next day, Flake texted the ex-girlfriend with a picture of a truck from Sam & Mary Trucking LLC parked in the apartment complex. Flake’s text indicated he believed the driver of the truck from Sam & Mary Trucking LLC was having an affair with the ex-girlfriend.
Later that night, it is alleged that Flake came to the apartment complex and witnesses told Warren police they observed him near the truck shortly before it burst into flames. Witnesses told police that later, they saw Flake set the apartment building on fire.
Flake is charged with one cout of first degree arson, a life felony; one count of third degree arson, a 10-year felony; and one count of domestic violence third offense, a 5-year felony.
A preliminary exam was held April 25 at 37th Warren District Court in front of Judge John Chmura. Chmura determined there was enough evidence to move forward with a trial on all charges.
Flake remains in custody in the Macomb County Jail. His cash/surety bond is set at $500,000 and Flake must wear a GPS tether if he posts bond.
A hearing is scheduled in Macomb County Circuit Court for May 13, 9 a.m. in front of Judge James Maceroni.
