Trial got underway Monday in Oakland County Circuit Court for the case against a Pontiac felon accused of fatally shooting a man outside a Pontiac motorcycle club.
Malcolm Robert Boykin, 56, is charged with second-degree murder for the death of Charlie Isaac Odneal II, who died at an area hospital on March 6, 2024 — a day after he was gunned down outside the Night Riders Motorcycle Club on Raeburn and Sanford streets.
Odneal, of Pontiac, was 42 years old.
The shooting stemmed from an argument between Boykin and Odneal, who were acquaintances, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. Boykin was arrested at a motel the day after the slaying.
As stated in his obituary, Odneal was known to many as “Isaac,” and was employed as a production worker with Bridgewater Interiors.
He is survived by three sons and two daughters.
Along with the second-degree murder charge, Boykin is charged with assault with intent to murder, felon in possession of a firearm carrying a concealed weapon and multiple counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
His criminal history includes convictions for drug possession, car theft, weapons-related crimes and armed robbery. Boykin was discharged from his most recent stay in prison in November 2022.
Judge Mary Ellen Brennan is presiding over the trial.
In 2019, another homicide happened at the Night Riders Motorcycle Club. Mecca Ramsey was gunned down inside the club’s bathroom, and a second man was shot and survived. Gregory Kincade was convicted of second-degree murder, assault with intent to murder and several weapons-related crimes.
He, too, had a criminal history prior to the shooting and spent nearly two decades in prison.
Kincade, 47, is serving a 45 to 80-year sentence at the Muskegon Correctional Facility.
His earliest release date is April 25, 2069.
