


Three-time NBA Slam Dunk champion Mac McClung shined on his home court, but it was the visiting Santa Cruz Warriors who delivered a vicious throwdown in their 145-111 upset of the host Osceola Magic in their NBA G League game Wednesday.
Santa Cruz forward Blake Hinson and Golden State two-way forward Braxton Key reached double digits in scoring in the first quarter. The Warriors stretched their lead to 30 points in the second quarter and cruised to the win at Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee, Florida.
The Warriors (14-12) sit in seventh place in the Western Conference, one spot shy of a playoff berth, with eight games remaining in the regular season. They’ll take on Birmingham (11-17) of the Eastern Conference at Legacy Arena at the BJCC in Alabama on Friday at 5 p.m.
Santa Cruz remained the conference’s top road team. It has posted an 8-3 record away from Kaiser Permanente Arena.
The Warriors shot 58.2% (53 of 91) from the field with 19 3-pointers. They registered 33 assists against 13 turnovers and outrebounded the Magic 51-47. The shot 51.4% from beyond the arc, but still managed 52 points in the paint.
Hinson was 13-of-19 shooting from the field, including 6-of-9 from 3-point range, and finished with a game-high 37 points. Key recorded 26 points, eight rebounds, and three steals.
Forward Javan Johnson made five 3s and scored 23 points for Santa Cruz. Guard Yuri Collins earned his 11th double-double of the season, putting up 15 points, 11 assists, and six rebounds. Two-way forward Jackson Rowe, in his first game back from injury, contributed 18 points, eight rebounds, and two steals.
McClung, a two-way guard for Orlando, led the Magic (16-10) with 25 points and three steals. Forward Myron Gardner had 23 points and 16 rebounds. Two-way guard Ethan Thompson recorded 16 points and four rebounds and guard/forward Jarrett Culver contributed 15 points, five rebounds, and three assists off the bench.
