In response to the growing demand for first responders, Macomb has reintroduced and modernized its accelerated Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and paramedic training programs.

These programs, which were initially offered several years ago, have been brought back to address the urgent need of local municipalities, including the city of Warren.

“Fire departments and EMS agencies are actively hiring and there is immediate demand,” said Michael Lopez, Director of the Public Service Institute (PSI) at Macomb. “The PSI consistently works with our community partners to find creative solutions to meet the industry needs.”

The accelerated program requires students to attend classes Monday through Friday for eight hours each day. This intensive schedule significantly reduces the duration of the training. The program now takes approximately six months to complete, compared to the one-year timeline. Similarly, the basic EMT program has been condensed to eight weeks from the conventional 16 weeks.

Faculty includes working or retired paramedics who teach students about paramedic procedures, emergency management, pharmacology and more.
