Keep taxpayer dollars from paying for abortion

You will find on your 2024 ballot a proposed amendment to Colorado’s Constitution repealing Amendment 3, passed in 1984. Amendment 3 forbids the expenditure of state funds for the purpose of abortion. The proposed amendment says this was an unintended consequence. It absolutely was not. Amendment 3 was purposely passed to prevent taxpayer funding of abortion. It did not prohibit abortion, only the use of taxpayer funds. This should not be changed.

The Democrats have forced many things down our throats since coming to power. Repealing Amendment 3 should not be another. Many taxpayers object to abortion on demand, and that is what this would allow, paid for by, guess who? How long will it take for them to find a loophole so Colorado taxpayers would pay for abortions for non-residents?

If you need an example of how things get twisted, look at the fees you pay the state on your car tags. They are fees and not taxes in order to get around the TABOR Amendment, which requires taxpayer approval of any tax increase. Since they are labeled fees, you didn’t get the courtesy of approval. The subject is different, but the point is they will expand to whatever they want after Amendment 3 is out of the way.

The proposed amendment states Amendment 3 prevents use of insurance coverage provided through Medicaid for abortion. I suppose it does, but the Hyde Amendment (federal) currently prevents Medicaid from paying for abortion, so that statement is not totally true. I urge you to vote against repeal of Amendment 3. If they are willing to mislead you to get where they want, maybe there’s more to this than they’re letting on.
