A Macomb County pizza store recently sold a Powerball lottery ticket good for $200,000, Michigan Lottery officials said Wednesday.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Original Buscemi’s on Gratiot Avenue near 25 Mile Road in Chesterfield Township. It was bought by Scott MacKenzie, of Cottrellville, located in St. Clair County.
MacKenzie was surprised to find out that what he thought was a $1,500 winning ticket ended up being a $200,000 winner.
MacKenzie matched four white balls and the Powerball — 04-24-29-39-63, PB: 25 — in the Nov. 30 drawing to win a $50,000 prize. Thanks to the Power Play, the prize was multiplied to $200,000.
“After the drawing, I took my ticket to a retailer to check it and thought maybe I’d won $1,500 or a smaller prize over $600 after getting a message to file a claim at the Lottery office,” MacKenzie said in a news release.
“I called my sister and had her check the winning numbers to see how much I’d won. When we found out the ticket was a $200,000 winner, we were both shocked and excited. Winning is a huge blessing that came just in time for the holidays.”
He visited Lottery headquarters recently to claim his prize. With his winnings, he plans to take a vacation, continue playing Powerball, and then save the remainder.
It’s the second time in the past week that an area establishment sold a lottery ticket worth big bucks.
Over the weekend, a winning ticket good for $1.1 million was bought at Liquor Land, 17934 E. Nine Mile Road at Schroeder Avenue, in Eastpointe.
An as-of-yet unidentified player matched all six Lotto 47 numbers drawn — 09-15-16-30-40-44 — on Saturday night to win the jackpot, lottery officials said.
