Jenny’s Steakhouse is a modern adaptation of a classic supper club. Known for its excellent food and neighborhood bar, Jenny’s is the place to go for steak, seafood and ribs.

For three generations, the Courtright family has been serving up home cooking. Sally Castro Courtright started in the 1950s in the kitchen at Ken’s on Western. Over the years, her sons and grandsons have opened their own restaurants, continuing the tradition. Jenny’s is owned by Sally’s youngest son, Carl, his wife, Gina, and other partners. Now, Carl and Gina’s son, Todd, is taking the helm.

We’re different because: Jenny’s features time-honored, traditional recipes, such as braised oxtail and shrimp de Jonghe, said Jean Braun, one of the partners. The quality does not go down when serving meals other than steaks. The seafood dishes, such as sauteed lake perch and baked salmon, are just as delicious as the steaks, she said.

On the menu: The most popular steak is Jenny’s filet, sauteed in garlic and herb oil and topped with blue cheese sauce for $24. The lunch menu offers a tenderloin-tip shish kebab, tacos, a breaded pork chop and eggplant Parmesan. For dinner, there are 10 steaks available in different sizes, including a bone-in ribeye, prime rib, London broil and top butt steak. There are nine seafood items, including lobster, fish and chips, scallops and whole catfish. Daily specials include braised lamb shank on Thursdays and baked beef tenderloin on Saturdays. There are burgers, sandwiches, salads and wraps.

Specialties: Because everything features homemade cooking, everything on the menu is a specialty, although steaks, ribs and perch are most popular.

Prices: Lunch ranges from $10 to $14. On the dinner menu, burgers and wraps range from $8 to $14, the chicken and pastas range from $13 to $16. Most of the seafood is $14 to $19, with sea scallops and lobster at market price. Jenny’s filet is $24 for 8 ounces. New York strip steaks cost $19 for a 12-ounce junior cut and $28 for a 20-ounce cut. The largest steaks are 32 ounces and cost $36 for the porterhouse and $42 for the prime rib. Oxtail soup is $5.

Decor: Just like Jenny’s food is a modern take on the classic supper club, so is the decor. Expect elegant hardwood tables and floors, but don’t expect stuffy tablecloths.

Logistics: Jenny’s is at 11041 S. Menard St., Chicago Ridge. It’s open daily at 11 a.m. The kitchen closes at 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and at 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Extras: Jenny’s has catering and memorial luncheons.
