Thanks, council, for removing native wildlife to make room for more fun
This is regarding the city of Longmont currently removing native animals from Dry Creek Park and replacing the native vegetation with acres and acres of landscaped park and ballfields.
I wanted to personally thank each City Council member for their resistance to believing everything seen in the media these days, wild talk of a loss of over 60% of the wildlife on our planet, climate change, drought and a biodiversity crisis!
Thank goodness the elected officials of our fair city see through this nonsense to the real root of the problem affecting humanity and threatening the very future of our children: a dearth of cricket pitches, volleyball courts, baseball fields and water features! This City Council will go down in history as being true visionaries in these trying times of fake climate news.
It’s comforting that our forward thinking and insightful City Council is not afraid to move forward with plans from 2008 to destroy a very biodiverse area, and all the native wildlife that lives there, for what really matters — recreation!
And the council’s refusal to pursue extending the prairie dog trapping time to more than two frenetic weeks so that the largest number of the over 600 prairie dogs are actually relocated and not exterminated, kudos!
The City Council can rest comfortably and give themselves a huge pat on the back, knowing that the prairie dogs will not be in “our backyard,” instead moved off to distant lands.
The council should be applauded for clearly having no concern for the myriad of other animals that rely on these prairie dogs and their burrows for food and shelter. None of this pesky “it takes a village” nonsense in this city!
You are all true public servants and guardians of the environment and our future!
