One person was killed and several were injured after a car ran crossed a median and collided with other vehicles stopped at a red light in a Hawthorne intersection early Sunday.

The crash occurred around 2:47 a.m. at the intersection of Hawthorne Boulevard and Imperial Highway, officials said.

According to preliminary information, a car headed westbound on Imperial Highway crossed the central median and collided head-on with vehicles stopped at a red light in the eastbound lanes. Police arrived and found three heavily damaged vehicles west of the intersection. Multiple people were hospitalized for their injuries, including one driver, who died at the hospital shortly after.

Further details on the condition of the victims were not released. Authorities did not say whether any arrests were made or if speed, drugs, or alcohol contributed to the crash.
