Guests who show up early for the 7 p.m. performance of “The British Invasion Show” at the Flossmoor Library can have some fun showing off their '60s musical knowledge in an on-screen trivia game on the subject.

After that, everyone can sit back and relax Jan. 19 while award-winning musician Dave Rudolf takes the audience on a trip down memory lane, keeping it simple all the way.

“No wigs, no costumes, just the music,” Rudolf says about the performance. “I'm not trying to be the Beatles or Paul McCartney or any of those groups. I'm just doing songs of the era (for) the memories that are there.”

Rudolf, 66, remembers the iconic performers — individuals and bands — in both history and song, featuring The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Who and Donovan, among others.

The show is a kind of a hybrid of history and music, Rudolf said.

He's able to weave into his performance a band's development — including musical mentors and influences — and reveal some tidbits about personal relationships. Rudolf said he may share a first-hand account of Phil and Don Everly of the Everly Brothers, who were strong influences on the Beatles but who also entered and left the stage from opposite sides because their years-long feud kept them from speaking to each other.

But, Rudolf stays tuned into “indicators” from his audience as to what they like, and he'll pass on the history if his audience seems to just want the music, he said.

“You kind of adjust to it as you go along,” he said.

It's possible there will be “some outliers” included in the performance, such as the English folk rock duo Chad and Jeremy, and Rudolf will take requests even if he doesn't know a song.

“I'll say, ‘I don't really know that, but let me see if I can figure it out,' ” he said with his signature sense of humor and self-professed “goofiness.”

Despite his laidback attitude during his performance, the longtime Park Forest resident is a disciplined artist with multiple awards in a number of artistic endeavors, including as a songwriter, author and performer.

Rudolf is a Disney Gold Record recipient for “Owl's Song,” a selection on the Grammy-nominated Disney album “Songs from the 100 Acre Wood.” He has been nominated 15 times for the NACA College Entertainer of the Year award, and his children's book, “Please…Don't Tease the Dragon,” was a Benjamin Franklin Humor book award nominee. Rudolf is working on his 33rd album, a rhythm and blues collection entitled “Pale Soul,” and his 34th album, a “singer/songwriter” grouping of diverse original music entitled “This Thorny Thing Called Life.”
