Billerica boys hockey squad nets MVC/DCL championship

The Billerica High boys hockey team enjoyed a successful trip to NorthStar Ice Sports in Westboro on Wednesday, doubling up Shrewsbury, 4-2, to clinch the MVC/DCL 1 championship.

Danny Viscione netted another game-winning goal as part of a two-goal, one-assist performance. Eddy Conley and Timmy Murphy also netted goals, as Murphy played a strong 200-foot game. Cam Penti came up with the play of the game, blocking a shot to secure the win.

Littleton 8, Leominster 0 >> Littleton/Bromfield dominated behind two-goal efforts from Ethan King and Zack Lizotte on Wednesday.

King added an assist. Registering a goal and assist were Jake Taglieri, Conor Glew and Jack Dunn. Gavin Werling also scored. Picking up two assists were Ryan Pittorino and Liam Glew. Combining for the shutout were Tyler Proteau (6 saves) and Jack Proulx (9 saves).

Alvirne/Milford rolls >> Alvirne/Milford held a 52-17 shots advantage as the Admirals cruised to a 9-2 win over Timberlane on Wednesday.

Mason Komarek stopped 15 of 17 shots. Offensively, Brandon Ganas led with two goals and one assist. Logan Howard scored his first varsity goal and then added a second goal. Brandon Callahan chipped in a goal and two assists.

Also scoring goals were Mason Tomkins, Braydon Atwood, Dylan Macleod and Evan Pargas. Bryce Larco dished out two assists.

Lowell 6, Lynn 3 >> Junior Ned Akashian scored two goals and added two assists as visiting Lowell captured the non-league contest Wednesday.

Seniors Nate Dodge and Marcus Novo and freshmen Jack Blaschke and Luke Rurak were the other goal scorers. Blaschke dished out two assists, while sophomore Kyle Novo and freshman Brodie Anderson had one apiece. Junior Grady Avila made 17 saves to earn the win in goal.

Tewksbury 4, Waltham 0 >> Senior David Karlberg posted a 16-save shutout to lift the Redmen to the win Wednesday at the Breakaway Ice Center. It was his fifth shutout of the winter.

Tewksbury (12-3-1, 8-1-1 MVC/DCL 2) outshot Waltham 34-16. Tyler Bourgea again led the offense with a goal and two assists. Jason Shreenan netted a goal and assist, while Michael Macauda and Jonathan Kusmaul also found the back of the net.

Girls hockey

Central 2, Wayland/Weston 1 >> Sidney Foster stopped 29 of 30 shots to backbone Central Catholic to the narrow road win Wednesday.

The Raiders (13-4) received the game-winning goal from Sophia Powers. Lucy Irwin factored in both goals with a goal and assist.

Fenwick 2, Stoneham/Wilmington 1 >> Stoneham/Wilmington was edged Wednesday by the Peabody school.
