The city of Chino recently announced five new winners of the Community Art Box Program, an initiative transforming utility boxes into works of public art throughout the city.

The latest winners and their designs were celebrated during a recognition ceremony at the Chino Days festival April 5.

Student winners are Logan Rodriguez, whose “Stroll Along the Wildflowers” is on the southwest corner of Central Avenue and Chino Hills Parkway; Emma Ramirez, “The Beauty of Chino,” northwest corner of Central Avenue and Phillips Boulevard; and Brooklyn Grace Dimapilis, “Cultures in Chino,” southeast corner of Central Avenue and College Park.

Adult winners are Bernard Nanadiego, “Chino, Then & Now…,” northeast corner of Central Avenue and Victory Way; and J.C Wu, “Blueprint of Change,” northwest corner of Central Avenue and Walnut Avenue.

“The Community Art Box Program is a wonderful way to tell Chino’s story while giving our talented local artists an opportunity to share their creativity with the entire community,” Mayor Eunice Ulloa said in a news release. “I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all of our incredible winners whose beautiful artwork will delight residents and visitors alike.”

The Community Art Box Program has three goals: promoting art within Chino, beautifying the community and highlighting local history. The city selected the pieces of art that best reflected four categories: Chino History, Chino Landscapes and Nature, Chino Living and Chino Youth.

The first four reimagined utility boxes were unveiled during a ceremony at Chino City Hall in July 2024. Those boxes, at City Hall, Central Avenue and C Street, and Central Avenue and Riverside Drive, feature designs by winning artists from the 2024 Chino Days art competition.
