Crown Point will hold State of City

Businesses and members of the community are invited to attend Crown Point’s State of the City event Tuesday at the St. Peter and Paul Macedonian Banquet Hall, 9660 Broadway, Crown Point.

Registration and networking begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner and the State of the City presentation at 6:15 p.m. In addition, awards will be presented to local businesses and youth volunteers.

The city is seeking entries for the Business Longevity Award, which recognizes businesses with 25 years or more in Crown Point. Applications are at crownpointin.wufoo.com.

Community center hosts Open Chess

Hammond Parks and Recreation and the Chess Club will present an Open Chess event from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and March 31 at the Jean Shepherd Community Center, 3031 J.F. Mahoney Drive, Hammond.

Admission is $3 per player and refreshments will be served.

Breakfast with Bunny offered

The Portage Kiwanis Club will host Breakfast with the Easter Bunny and an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday at Woodland Park, 2100 Willowcreek Road, Portage.

The hunt is free and will begin at 9:30 a.m. for children ages 3 to 11. Parents are asked to bring a basket or bag to collect eggs.

An all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast with the Easter Bunny will be from 8 to 11 a.m. in the Oakwood Grand Hall. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children. Free pictures with the Easter Bunny and children’s crafts will take place. All proceeds will benefit the Myron Fessler Scholarship fund.

Open house invite for future students

Purdue University Northwest invites prospective students and their families to an open house from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Dworkin Student Services and Activities Complex on the Westville campus, 1401 S. US Hwy. 421, and from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 7 in the Student Union and Library on the Hammond campus, 2233 173rd St.

Students will be able to explore undergraduate and graduate areas of study, financial aid, student organizations, housing, athletic programs, veteran services and admission requirements. Campus tours also will be provided.

Hammond to host Easter Egg Hunt

Hammond Parks and Recreation, the Hammond Parks Foundation, Inc. and the American Veterans Motorcycle Riders Association invite Hammond parents and children ages 1 to 14 to the 15th annual Easter Egg Hunt beginning at noon Sunday at Hessville Park, 173rd and Kennedy Avenue, Hammond.

The event is free. Parents are asked to bring a basket or bag for eggs. In addition to the hunt, there will be pictures with the Easter Bunny.

Chamber holds networking event

The 15th annual Portage Community and Business Night will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. April 19 at Woodland Park, 2100 Willowcreek Road, Portage.

Sponsored by the Greater Portage Chamber of Commerce, the program provides businesses the opportunity to showcase services or products. The event will cost a $2 entry fee from 4 to 7 p.m., followed by Business-to-Business networking from 7 to 9 p.m.
